It’s a NEastmas Extravaganza!

This Saturday, Dec. 27, four NEast bands will come together at the Oxley Post at Torresdale and Decatur.

Good For Nothing, Ceasefire, Bear Number 141 and Thru It All will play sets from 7 p.m. – 11p.m. in an effort to establish a legitimate NEast music scene. The cover is $8 for all ages, but also includes an open bar.

The Oxley has hosted this event twice before with great turnout, and there will be an after party at Tom’s Sportsman Pub on Frankford and Brighton.

For more information, contact Tom Reamer at TomGFN [at] yahoo [dot] com, or check out the MySpace pages of Good For Nothing, Ceasefire, Bear Number 141 and Thru It All.

NEasters are die-hard Phils fans 0

Dec20

By Shannon McDonald

After the World Series chaos at Cottman and Frankford, we all kinda knew this, but NEasters are die-hard Phillies fans. Our latest poll results prove it.

We asked which team’s bandwagon you’re on, and the Phightin’ Phils came in first:

redfoamfinger

  • Eagles: 17%
  • Flyers: 11%
  • Sixers: 0%
  • Phils (because they won the Series): 17%
  • Phils (because I’m a lifelong fan): 41%
  • Phantoms: 0%
  • Soul: 0%
  • Kixx: 11%

You all agree the Sixers are on the same level as the minor league hockey and football teams. That’s gotta hurt.

Golden Nugget leaves Boardwalk 5

We all remember the Golden Nugget ride on Wildwood Boardwalk’s Hunt’s Pier. The three-story coaster opened in the early ’60s and took countless riders on a mining adventure for more than 30 years before it shut down in 1999.

On January 31, 2010, the Golden Nugget will be taken down to make way for a newer, larger coaster.

Jack Morey of Morey’s Piers told the Daily News, “We just couldn’t make it work.”

The cost of restoring the ride proved too much for Morey, who assures the Golden Nugget props will end up in other Morey’s Piers rides or in a museum.

No matter what replaced the Golden Nugget, Wildwood lifers will always associate Hunt’s Pier with their favorite mining ride.
