Northeast Times online taken over by Philly.com 2

In some more disappointing NEast media news, the Northeast Times online recently merged with Philly.com. This comes just a month after two NEast newspaper called it quits.

A message on NortheastTimes.com reads:

The Northeast Times Web site has joined the Philly.com online family.
Please visit www.philly.com/mycommunity to catch the latest online version of the Northeast Times.
Northeast Times archives up to and including the issue of Jan. 8, 2009 remain on our www.northeasttimes.com Web site.

A visit to Philly.com’s My Community page yields a cluttered blog…and the Northeast Times is way at the bottom! Don’t bother clicking on the “more news” link, you’ll only get a “Page Not Found” message. It appears only a small percentage of the paper is online.

Now, the old Northeast Times Web site wasn’t anything spectacular – just a blank white page with links – but it got the job done and held its own.

Once again, Northeast news has been pushed to the bottom.

I thik it is a travesty to lose our Northeast papers. We have already lost the Newsgleaner and now the Times is being absorbed by Philly.com. The Northeast needs local news same as any other town or borough, that is why I am so happy to see this web site/magazine up and running for our beloved corner of the city.
