Northeast High School students test positive for tuberculosis 1

At least 14 students at Northeast High School have tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis, according to 6ABC.

Many of those students were found to have come in contact with the bacterial infection after 80 students were tested following the announcement that one young person had shown signs of TB infection.

It is important to note that there is a difference between TB infection and disease. Many of these students who tested positive might not have the active infection, but rather a latent form. That means they can’t infect others.

The school is at 1601 Cottman Ave., hugging Lawndale, but most often considered to be in Rhawnhurst.
