Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Action News mistakes Holmesburg for Mayfair 3
As NEast Philly has reported, a 22-year-old male was fatally shot Sunday in Holmesburg.
But Action News reporters must have lost their maps when compiling their report, because they listed the 7900-block of Craig Street as Mayfair.
Even though the shooting took place a mere block away from Holmesburg Bakery, Holmesburg Baptist Christian Academy and about a half-dozen other businesses with the neighborhood’s namesake.
Is this a pattern? The rule for larger news outlets seems to be “when in doubt, just use any neighborhood name.”
Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
This victim was my cousin…Tell me really what is more important?? The exact town or the fact that an innocent man was killed. And, next time learn proper english “Outside media **doesn’t** care…” Idiots.
Thanks for your comment, and we’re sorry for your loss. Right NEast/Wrong NEast isn’t meant to trivialize the actual story, just the way it was covered by other media outlets. Before this commentary ran, we also ran a news story about the crime.
“Media,” is in fact, a plural noun – used collectively to refer to “mediums” – the various types of news sources. Though it’s often used as a singular noun, plural is the correct style, thus our use of the word “don’t.”
