Right NEast/Wrong NEast: confirmation that Action News doesn’t read NEast Philly 4
Back in October, we featured a Right NEast/Wrong NEast calling out Action News for misreporting a neighborhood. The break, which happened on the 2800-block of Willits Road near Holme Circle, reportedly happened in Torresdale.
Though Right NEast/Wrong NEast is a popular feature on NEast Philly, we don’t pretend the big news outlets read every word we write. As if we needed confirmation of that, Action News has made the error once again.
Yesterday’s watermain break — just blocks from October’s — at Willits Road and Holme Avenue was again reported as being in Torresdale.
We give up, Action News; have it your way. At least this way our readers can have a nice laugh.
Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
Actually I lived onthe 3200 block of Holme Avenue for 21 years and we always referred to our neighborhood as Torresdale. So I don’t know why you are so upset!
Eileen – thanks for the comments, and for the input from a long-time resident. Neighborhoods change over time, but generally we don’t recognize that area as Torresdale, as it’s associated with Crispin Gardens, Penn Academy and the respective civic associations. Do you have any additional thoughts as to what makes that area Torresdale? Happy holidays!
I’m curious as to the boundaries of these neighborhoods as well. I bought a home recently right there and it was listed as Torresdale. The library branch is named Torresdale but then some folks refer to the area as Academy Gardens. I think it’s all a little fuzzy which is why I often talk in parishes instead. We live in St. Katherine’s…. makes it easiest?
As a Philadelphia native who now lives in another part of the country, when you say Torresdale, I know the area you’re talking about. When you say Crispin Gardens, I’m a little fuzzy and would have to look it up.
