After a tense game Thursday that ended early due to the rowdiness of Olney High School fans, Frankford High School basketball players left the gym victorious. And then, they were attacked.

As coach Ben Dubin told the Daily News, several players got hit, and he took a blow to the face. The first person to be attacked was an adult Frankford fan, as the group began to board the bus home.

The trouble began inside, when Olney fans and alumni refused to sit in the stands, and one Olney player reportedly threatened a Frankford player upon scoring. Frankford won 74-51, though refs ended the game one minute early because of the chaos in the gym.

Angry over the loss, Olney supporters went after the Frankford players. As Dubin recalled, his player Omar Askia suffered a swollen eye after being hit in the face, and player Harold Hicks bled from the mouth as the result of a sucker punch.

While the School District investigates the attacks, promising to discipline any students involved, Olney coach Jeff McKenna said it was alumni and young adults in the neighborhood who attacked the Frankford students, though he admits the attacks reflect poorly on his team.

There were four adults present at the game — include a school police officer — but the attacks were too many to control, and several people were arrested for disorderly conduct.
