Jury selection underway in 2007 armored guard murders 0

Jan12

gavel_1It was Oct. 4, 2007 when Loomis employees William Widmaier and Joseph Alullo were murdered while on a job for the armored truck company.

Now the killer is set to face trial, with jury selection beginning this week.

While working in at a bank near Bustleton and Bleigh avenues, Widmaier, 65, and Alullo, 54, were shot by Mustafa Ali. Ali, then 36, confessed to killing the two retired police officers in a spontaneous attack, but police say surveillance video from Wachovia Bank proves the act was premeditated.

The video reportedly shows Ali approaching from behind the truck, wearing gloves to cover up his identity. He shot Widmaier once in the chest, and Alullo three times in the chest and abdomen. A third guard inside the truck was injured when Ali attempted to shoot through the window.

Ali has pleaded not guilty.
