Right NEast/Wrong NEast: There must be a special El stop for the Philly Weekly writers 0

We have no mercy for Philadelphia Weekly food critic Brian McManus, because this mistake is just downright stupid.

McManus recently reviewed Frankford’s Billy’s Chili Pot, and although his assessment of the place paints a pretty bleak pretty of Frankford, that’s not what we’re taking issue with.

To get to Billy’s Chili, McManus had to take the El. From Center City. That left him a solid 20 minutes to stare at the Market-Frankford Line map. The map with all the names of the stops.

And then, McManus got off the El at the Margaret-Orthodox stop. He must have heard the voice recording announce the name of the stop.

Or not.

Because in his review, McManus tells readers he got off at the Margaret-Oxford stop. Granted, it gets a little confusing since Oxford Avenue is just north of the stop. But really? Been to the Northeast much?

Luckily, the commenters are putting him in his place:

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.

    Well

well if you think about it that is a more appropriate for the stop. e.g 13th&market, erie-torresdale,. There is no margaret orthodox intersection.

To Pat: The stop is not “13th & Market”. It’s just 13th Street, just like all of the other number street stops. Also, Erie-Torresdale is not really an intersection. It’s the same street. It just changes names when it crosses Kensington Ave. Also, there’s no “Bridge-Pratt” or “York-Dauphin” intersections either. Notice I didn’t add an “&” between the names. Neither does Septa. At one time, the Margaret EL stop used to span from Margaret to Orthodox, just like the station between Bridge and Pratt sts or the one between York and Dauphin sts.
