Saturday: Northwood residents called police Saturday night when they spotted a suspicious van around Haworth and Rutland streets. Inside the van was a child, who’d been lured there by a registered sex offender. Robert Alvarez, a 44-year-old New York resident, was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

A West Philadelphia woman died Saturday afternoon following a crash on Roosevelt Boulevard. The woman, 58, reportedly lost control of her vehicle while driving near Strahle Street in Rhawnhurst, and crashed into a tree around 5:30 p.m. Though the woman hit another vehicle before hitting the tree, no other injuries were reported.
