More than $10k stolen from Resurrection Church 1
Pastor Joseph Howarth of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhawnhurst says is praying for the person/people who stole from the parish overnight Monday.
When Howarth arrived at the church for yesterday’s 8:30 a.m. Mass, he realized the door to the sacristy has been tampered. Thieves had broken into the safe and taken the cash and checks that were ready to go to the bank.
Between the church’s regular collection and its special collection for Black and Indian ministries, $11,749 was taken.
Security cameras on the property do not cover the area that was broken into, and additional cameras have not yet been installed.
No arrests have been made so far.

I was at Mass that day at that church & as usual, left my handbag back at the pew as did most ladies when going up to the communion rail. Now that there is speculation that the thief could have been hiding all night in our church & probably was familiar with the safe combination (an inside job, some speculate), will I still feel as safe leaving any of my valuables in plain sight this coming Sunday? I have always felt safe in church but maybe some of this innocence/naivete has been misguided & I will have to be more security-conscience. I’m in my early 60′s & have never heard of this happening before! Oh sure, I’ve heard of the poor boxes being pilfered, but an entire collection? I too will pray for whoever did this. In my mind, it’s akin to grave-robbing.
