Thanks to help from Mayor Michael Nutter and several Philadelphia business, the Frankford Chargers and North Philly Blackhawks played in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Florida yesterday.

With prompting from Nutter, Mitchell & Ness, clothing retailer Villa, Comcast, CBS, and the law firm Bowman Kavulich donated $26,5000 to support the teams’ travel and lodging.

The Chargers, a Division I Midget team, would only have been able to cover the airfare for its 20 players. The Pop Warner Super Bowl lasts through this week. This is the team’s 42nd anniversary.
