UPDATE: Sources from the city confirm the recovered guns were removed from the home of the deceased Joseph Kelly. All of the guns were registered to Kelly. Authorities believe some may have been stolen from him in an earlier break-in, but he legally possessed all the firearms. Kelly will be buried Friday

Police yesterday found more than 250 guns in a home on the 3600-block of Solly Avenue in Holmesburg. More than 200 rifles, assault weapons, machines guns and more than 50 hand guns were recovered — all registered to a deceased former police officer.As CBS3 reports, the guns are registered to 78-year-old Joseph Kelly, a retired police officer and Korean War vet was has recently passed away.

Authorities believe the home has been burglarized at least once and that there are more weapons yet to be recovered. The Police Firearms unit will investigate the weapons to determine how many have been stolen and how they were removed from the registrant’s custody.
