“Dear Philadelphia, You had me at yo!”

It’s short, sweet and so appropriate. Visit Philly has announced the winner of its billboard contest, which let anyone and everyone submit suggestions for the popular “With love, Philadelphia XOXO” marketing campaign.Winner Mary K. was one of more than 2,700 applicants in the contest. Some of them had similar ideas:

  • 106 submitters mentioned Rocky
  • Ben Franklin got 102 nods
  • 42 people wanted to see Cliff Lee on there, while the whole team got 76 submissions
  • 83 entries mentioned cheesesteaks.

Look for the new billboard while you’re heading southbound on 95 in the coming weeks. And you can still make your own billboard for the fun of it.

What is the point in advertising Philadelphia in Philadelphia? Shouldn’t the billboard go up in neighboring cities like Baltimore or New York?

  2. Steve, good question. Rest assured we do advertise out-of-market — in fact, we have more than 200 ads “dominating” Penn Station in NYC this month (and we’re headed to Union Station in DC next month). But we also know that its important to have a presence here in Philadelphia… after all, locals are our best ambassadors.
