1. So let's get this straight. City Council (big brother) is now going to micro manage empty structures and penalize property owners because of the criminal actions of criminals.

2. Since this is in the name of safety why not pass a law requiring all people travelling in crime ridden neighborhoods to carry a firearm so as to reduce the chances of a police officer having to be called (and thus put at risk) because you might be be the victim of a crime?

3. Yes a victim, like the property owners who victimized by those who trespas onto their property, and now city hall is going to victimize them again, to the tunes of hundreds of thousands if not a million dollars, the cost to put up steel sheet metal throught the entire city.

4. Oh, guess how much sheet metal is worth to scavengers versus plywood. A lot more!

5. Just wait until you hear about some property owner who spent thousands of dollars to put steel sheet metal on his structure as required by the city only to have it ripped out by scavengers.

6. The next thing you know the city is fining him thousands of dollars for not spending thousands more to replace it. You do the math and figure out the legal implications...

7. Will the city also be required to cover up it's vacant properties with the same steel sheet metal? Just like they shovel city property when it snows (not!)?

8. If the answer to the above is yes then I can't wait to find out that a family/friend/donator to a member of city council gets the city contracts to supply the sheet metal!

9. The bottom line is that city council has no right to place the onus on the crime victims!

10. Just another example of how private property rights are going down the toilet in this country!
