They don’t intersect in Northeast Philadelphia Neither even runs through the Northeast. But CBS3 decided to have some fun with geography yesterday.

In posting information about a store robbery in Fairhill, the station reported the robbery took place in Northeast Philadelphia.

“A suspect is wanted in connection to the robbery of a store in Northeast Philadelphia.

A black male walked into the Mobile Trac cell phone store, located at 2643 Germantown Avenue, at about 10:54 a.m. on June 22nd. He then went behind the counter with his right hand is his pocket as if he had a weapon and demanded money.”

So, just in case you’re a Northeast resident who saw the headline and moved on in an effort to spare yourself from reading crime news in you’re neighborhood – don’t worry.

“Being a city resident for 59yrs and counting this location is nowhere near Northeast Philadelphia,” commenter Bill F. said on CBS’s article page. Sing it, Bill!

What’s most frustrating here is that CBS didn’t bother to take the hint from the police. Authorities are looking for tipsters to help lead to an arrest, and it’s the East Detectives – not Northeast Detectives – seeking information.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
