Northeast Philly reacts: What’s your take on the Affordable Care Act decision? [slideshow] 6

"We’ve gotten out of hand," Fox Chase resident Mike Dowd said of the Affordable Care Act health mandate. "People should take personal responsibility for health care." Photo/G.E. Reutter

The pundits and politicians have had their say over the Supreme Court ruling on Health Care for over a day now. How about the regular folks? I took a walk around the 18 bus loop in Fox Chase today to gauge how people were feeling about the ruling. This was non-scientific and folks were chosen at random but, offered up opinions that seem to reflect the mood nationwide.

“From what I’ve read, I think it’s fine if it keeps me from paying for other people,” Fox Chase resident Nancy Schmidt said.

“The mandate/tax is preposterous,” Tasjae Moore of Fox Chase said. “People should always have a choice.”

And so it went this morning in Fox Chase, where opinions did abound.

Kevin Scharnbacher of Burholme offered another opinion. “It’s wonderful they ruled this way. It helps out families like mine. I was able to keep my daughter on my insurance until she was 26.”

As the opinions mounted up on both sides of the issue, I realized something else – 20 folks had no knowledge of the Supreme Court ruling and could not offer an opinion.

And Thomas Lane of Fox Chase added, “I think it was a just decision because everyone should have health coverage. We have to look out for seniors and people who can’t afford health coverage.”

No level of government has the Constitutional or moral right to subsidize health care, let alone FORCE people to buy a product or pay a penalty tax for not doing so! The Supreme Court be damned! This is the same body that has said certain human being were actually not people and were to be treated as things and pieces of property. I’m talking about blacks and pre-born babies. What’s next-a law requiring every person to purchase a certain amount of broccolli every week or pay a penalty tax for not doing so? ANYBODY WHO THINKS THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO FORCE ME TO ENTER THE MARKET PLACE IS A SCUMBAG. When people refuse to accept the government plan and refuse to pay the penalty tax there will eventually be civil and criminal charges filed. When this happens I am pleading with my fellow Americans to engage in jury nullification! If you are sitting on a jury involving a case where someone is facing charges for refusing to abide by this immoral and unconstitutional act, please vote not guilty, no matter what!

Well I got mine, so tough nuggets to all you losers with kids who can’t find a job, or have sick loved ones who have been dropped by your insurance company. Thank God I’m the only one on earth and don’t have to live with all the rest of you slugs who aren’t as smart and good looking as me.

This’ll add 12-20 MILLION people to health care rolls WITHOUT adding any new doctors. Get ready to sleep over in ERs

Nothing is Free..remember that when in Jan 2013 your income taxes go through the roof!! Think waiting time in the ER at 8hours now is great..think it will get better?? With 80% of doctors in private practice stating they will retire..we are doomed! Say Good Bye to MRI testing! Guess the doctors will move to Canada..they want a to privatize their govt insurance! The wait times for doctors and testing was months! ER were days.. they have a website to show how long the wait is!! Same complaints in England/UK where they have one MRI in 50miles and the wait is 3 months!!! Great you will have insurance!! State of Pa Does NOT have to expand the Medicaid!! So as it stands now..if you Do Not have children under 16yrs..are Not Disabled, and unemployed without income middle aged!! You will have to pay for your state insurance of $300 a month with a high deductible of $1000, $50+RX. The other policies had as high as a 8000 deductible!! Small business are laying off to go under 50 people! And as it stands now..with Medicaid card..there is maybe one spec in the entire city! Not many take this card in the first place! So be happy..you may find that your dreams will turn into a nightmare!! And people will die waiting to be seen by a doctor!

The Obama healthcare bill was written by and for the healthcare insurance companies. You can cry all you want about the Constitution but it’s the people who are running the large Corporations that will decide what laws will pass.

The Affordable Care Act will save billions for the government. People who think they should have the opportunity to Not buy insurance, don’t seem to understand that they are forcing me, the taxpayer to pay for their coverage. TheACA would have been better if the conservatives had not wrangled so much off of it and allowed a single payer system. Then health care would’ve been available for all. Perhaps with this system, we can bring our newborn death rates out of the gutter. The only country with worse infant mortality at this point is Zambia!
