Updated: Funeral arrangements announced for Ed Kelly 3

“We sadly announce the passing of Ed Kelly, former executive director of the GNPCC this morning at Holy Redeemer Hospice,” reads a notice sent today by the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. “He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all who knew him.”

Kelly, 86, ran an auto repair business in Burholme, served on the GNPCC and paid for the band shell that’s hosted Pennypack Park’s summer music festivals since 1977. He was the grand marshall in the 2011 Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade. Kelly will be inducted into the Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame in October.

Updated Aug. 21 Funeral arrangement have been announced. A viewing will be held Aug 24 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 2000 Shelmire Ave. The funeral will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Pennypack Park Music Festival.

    As a big fan of the Pennypack Music Festival, I am saddened th hear of Ed’s passing. He touched a lot of peoples hearts here in Northeast Philly. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Ed’s family.

    I didnt know Mr Kelly but I heard many nice things about him RIP Mr. Kelly and bless you and your family . I so enjoyed these concerts that you started so thank you for these memories.
