What remains: Inside Frankford’s old Circle Theater 0
Take the El to Frankford’s Margaret-Orthodox station and walk one block north and you’ll find the Shoe Warehouse.
The store is exactly what it sounds like, but the building it occupies is the focus of a Hidden City feature — the 1929 Circle Theater. The site has photos of what remained of the building as of 2010, and a bit of history about the theater that once entertained almost 3,000 people at a time.
“The sneaker store is a growth within the larger body of the theater, a small, rectangular box made out of brick and concrete block that was built into the auditorium’s massive open space. The seating is gone, and it appears the balcony is as well.”
