Mayfair residents had a reason to celebrate Saturday as they flooded a closed-off Frankford Avenue for the fifth annual May Fair.

The morning began early with the Fallen Heroes 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for the Hero Thrill Show, which helps educate the families of fallen officers, and also helps further rebuild the Mayfair Memorial Playground. At, organizer Mia Hylan held a dog pageant, helping draw attention to establishing a dog park in the Northeast.

“It’s taken years to get the Memorial Playground project underway, so I’m hoping we can get a lot of people behind the project,” Hylan said of the neighborhood’s latest cause. continue reading »

It’s located at Levick Street just south of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge and will be part of the Kensington and Tacony trail the Delaware River City Corporation is developing along the waterfront between Wissinoming and Tacony.

The house at 542 Levick St. in Lawncrest is three stories and zoned residential.

If owner Chandler Le gets his way, the Zoning Board of Adjustment will vote later this month to approve a variance allowing Le to operate his accountant business from the first floor of the home.  Currently vacant, the house would be converted to accommodate Le’s business on the first floor, while Le and his wife and children would live on the second and third floors.

Though Lawncrest Community Association members voted 26-11 last night to support Le’s plan, members had several questions about Le’s intentions and the future of the property.

Members approved the plan with three provisos: continue reading »

Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Yet another street/neighborhood mix-up by Action News 1

May15

Someone needs to put an overlay on Google Maps with the declaration, “Torresdale and Torresdale Avenue are not the same.”

But given the nature of this mistake, we’re not sure it would help. Last month, five people were injured in a car accident at Harbison and Torresdale Avenues.

Ever the sly editors, Action News ran a story with a headline that said the crash happened in Torresdale and a story that said it happened in Frankford.

So where did the crash take place?  The answer is . . . neither! continue reading »
