The Northeast gets called a lot of things: suburban, Republican, behind-the-times — and those are just the subtle insults.
But what people in other parts of the city — and even people from the Northeast — don’t realize, is that our region is as important, historic and evolved as the rest of Philadelphia. And if you need proof, look no further than the Northeast Philadelphia Hall of Fame.

Police are investigating an overnight shooting on the 900-block of Marcella Street, just off Summerdale Avenue.
Reports say a 19-year-old man is in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center after being shot in the hand and chest just after 6:30 last night.

A 52-year-old construction worker fell to his death yesterday morning near the Globe Dye Works complex in Frankford.
The man, whose identity and hometown were not disclosed by police, was working on a roof, through which he fell on the 4500-block of Worth Street.
It’s the same block that has seen heavy development to the 11-building campus that was once the home to a fifth-generation textile manufacturing plant and has now been re-purposed for mixed-use residential and commercial space.
NEast Philly could not independently confirm that the worker was with the Globe Dye Works project.

The SPCA was on the 1100-block of Hellerman Street yesterday afternoon, where employees cleared 68 animals out of a home.
Investigators obtained a search warrant after neighbors complained of seeing several rabbits on the property.
Twenty-two rabbits, 5 dogs, 7 guinea pigs, 8 doves, 22 cats, 1 pigeon. 1 duck, 1 turtle and 1 hamster were seized from the property, which has been deemed by L&I to be unfit for human habitation.

Two men robbed the Diamond Depot in Franklin Mills Mall Sunday morning, leaving with $80,000 to $100,000 worth of jewelry.
The men entered the store just before noon, wearing masks. They smashed a display case and stole in contents, then ran into the parking lot. According to reports, the men fled in a silver Dodge minivan.

The man killed by an Amtrak train Thursday at Holmesburg Junction has been identified as Steven Sumaliki.
The 25-year-old Holmesburg resident had reportedly been spotted near the station by Amtrak police earlier in the day, and was driven home when authorities believed he was intoxicated.
Sumaliki was struck by the train at 9:16 p.m., and the medical examiner’s officer is treating his death as a suicide.

One person was found dead after a fiery, singe-car accident in Northwood Saturday morning.
Investigators say the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car on the 4600-block of Adams Avenue around 5 a.m.. The car slammed into a tree, then caught fire.
Police have not determined what caused the driver to lose control.

Police believe the robber who targeted a Frankford 7-Eleven Friday morning is the same man responsible for robbing several other stores in December.
The 7-Eleven on the 5200-block of Harbison Avenue was robbed around 12:45 a.m. Friday, and the description — a white man in his 20s — matches that of a suspect wanted for at least seven 7-Eleven robberies late last year.
