Dear Holme Circle Civic Assoc. I am unable to attend the meeting at St.
Jerome School this Weds. 1/23/2013. I am however interested in the
status of the Northeast Community Center as well as a couple of issues
with Nazareth Hospital and would have liked to have spoken with Nancy
Cherone. Nazareth Hospital is risking the loss of its most experienced
nurses by to requiring them earn a BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing) within as little as 3 years or risk
termination. Some of these nurses even have Bachelor’s Degrees in other
areas. These are the most experienced nurses that you and I would want
to have taking care of us. Many of these nurses are in their 40s and 50s with over 20 years experience and specialty certifications that demonstrate excellence in areas such
as trauma and ICU and who also have called upon to mentor new nurses have stated that they
would leave the profession rather than go into debt at this time in
their lives for something that has nothing to do patient care. If this happens, patients will at an increased risk of being cared for by inexperienced nurses. Many nurses realize that the $20,000 – $40,000 student loan debt they will incur may not be able to be paid off by the time the nurse would like to retire. The BSN requirement is the result of one flawed and biased study that was done by a University of Pennsylvania professor in 2003 that was later said by many healthcare professionals to be nothing more than propaganda and a way to make money for four year colleges by having nurses run back to school. Also many hospitals imposing this requirement rent space to universities who offer RN-BSN programs. This constitutes one big racket as well as a big risk for the general public.

  • NO CHICKENS HERE

Chickens!! Really I leave next door to a family that had them and I mean lots of them,, The odor was so bad at times. Thanks to everyone that voted on the bill to ban them from the city. If you want a farm buy one!! No one should have to deal with the stink..Those who think it’s fine, wait till they have them next door to you… If you have not lived through it then shut the hell up , and let the farm animals live on a farm .
