The 8th Police District Advisory Council hosted their annual 8th District Police Appreciation Holiday Dinner Saturday, Dec. 3, at the district for three shifts of officers between 10 a.m. that day and 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning

The officers enjoyed additional entrees this year, due to the generosity of area caterers.  Also, as an added touch, the officers were presented with poinsettias courtesy of Lowes for them or their significant others. PDAC member Steve Faunce of Thunderbird Bowling Lanes on Holme Avenue also donated three Family Bowling Packages, which were raffled to an officer representing each of the three shifts. continue reading »

Holme Avenue Bridge to open by the end of October 4

Seen here Sept. 28, the Holme Avenue Bridge is expected to reopen by the end of October.

Four months after closing and two months ahead of schedule, the Holme Avenue Bridge is expected to reopen by the end of October.

“October 31 if everything goes well,” PennDOT’s Harold Windisch specified.

Windisch brought the welcome news last night to the Holme Circle Civic Association meeting. More than 20 people attended to hear firsthand the news announced Monday on Facebook. continue reading »

The 8th PDAC will take part in National Night Out once again, marking the 28th annual nation-wide event with a handful of activities to promote community safety.

Tuesday, Aug. 2nd is the night communities around the country will lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and join their neighbors from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for family activities. continue reading »

Giant marks Philadelphia opening with gift to 8th PDAC 0

On the eve of Giant Food Store opening its first supermarket within the boundaries of Philadelphia at 2550 Grant Ave. Wednesday, the store presented the 8th Police District Advisory Council with a generous check for $1,000 as part of the store’s $10,000 local community gift-giving program.

Representing Chairman Harry Sonntag and the PDAC organization, Vice Chairperson Elsie Stevens accepted the donation at the store’s press conference on Tuesday at noon. accompanied by several PDAC board members and trustees. continue reading »

8th PDAC honors veterans with barbecue 0

Last Saturday, the 8th Police District Advisory Council visited the Delaware Valley Veterans Home on Southampton Road to honor the vets’ service to our country by providing them with a barbecue.

PDAC Chairman Harry Sonntag thanked the vets for their service saying, “Your service to our country and every citizen who lives in it will never be forgotten. We hope that this small token of appreciation by our members and volunteers from the community reminds you all that there are many people who love you, respect you and appreciate the sacrifices you have made for us.” continue reading »

Tonight’s meetings scheduled with the 8th Police District have been canceled due to the tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service.

The following will not take place tonight:

  • 6 p.m. Town Hall meeting with Capt. Deborah Kelly
  • 7 p.m. PDAC meeting

8th District will hold Burglary Seminar Tuesday 0

As a result of increased burglaries in the Far Northeast, the 8th Police District Advisory Council invites 8th District residents and businesses to attend a Burglary Seminar Luncheon on Tuesday, April 19th at 11:30 a.m. at Torresdale Frankford Country Club, 3801 Grant Avenue (at Frankford Avenue), Philadelphia 19114.  Captain Deborah Kelly will share valuable tips to prevent your home or business from becoming the next burglary victim while enjoying a FREE lunch.

High turnout for first 8th District Burglary Seminar 2

The first in a series of monthly Burglary Seminar/Luncheons hosted by the 8th PDAC was a huge success on Monday at Cannstatter’s Volksfest-Verein, with a combination of 65 residents and businesses in attendance.

Unfortunately, because of the overwhelming response and financial restrictions, the acceptance of additional reservations had to be discontinued a week prior to the event.  continue reading »

Greater Bustleton Civic League: Tonight’s meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Ami. The meeting was originally scheduled after a Jan. 26 postponement due to snow.

8th District meetings: Tonight’s 8th District PDAC and Captain’s Town Hall meetings have been canceled.

Tacony zoning meeting: Tonight’s zoning meeting of the Tacony Civic Association is still on for 7 p.m. at the Sons of Italy, 4741 Friendship St.
