Friendly reminder: We have a comment policy and we’re not afraid to use it 0

Aug12

We’ve been really encouraged over the last several months as we’ve seen readership and comments increase on NEast Philly.

This site isn’t just meant to provide information, but to engage the people who live in the Northeast, get their feedback and encourage a constructive discussion.

Over the last week, we’ve seen an even bigger surge in readership and comments thanks to a new partnership we’ll share more details about in the coming weeks. But with more eyes come more words, and we want to remind everyone about our comment policy. continue reading »

Champ had a big week. He recently graduated PetSmart’s dog school, and he’s looking pretty happy about it. Here’s hoping his diploma is edible.

If you can’t get enough pets, be sure to check out our Pet of the Week series. You can send us your own birthday, wedding and pet announcements and photos to info AT neastphilly DOT com.

Hey folks, we’re doing some site maintenance between now and the New Year. Coverage might be spotty, and some things might look out of whack, but rest assured, we’re still here to bring you news and take your tips, comments and questions.

Hopefully, we’ll have a refined-looking and more navigable site for you come 2011.

As part of our ongoing partnership with Metro, NEast Philly continues to contribute content to the city’s free daily newspaper.

Yesterday’s Northeast edition — which comes out every other Wednesday — featured NEast Philly content on the cover. Yes, we’re proud! And you should be, too — when was the last time you saw Northeast news make the front page of a citywide publication? continue reading »

Word is spreading quickly, but we wanted to share the news for those who may not have heard: NEast Philly has entered into a partnership with Metro, the city’s free daily newspaper.

Metro recognizes how much relevant news happens in the Northeast, and in order for that news to reach a broader audience, the editors have agreed to run some NEast Philly content on a regular basis. continue reading »

NEast Philly has applied for a grant 0

Oct5

megaphone

Those of you interested in reading your neighborhood news – and maybe reporting on it – might be interested to hear that NEast Philly has applied for a grant with the Knight Foundation.

You can see our proposal here, which suggests that with a grant, NEast Philly editors would be able to rent a storefront, buy equipment and train people to become citizen journalists. Essentially, our readers who enjoy being active in their communities can become neighborhood correspondents.

You can rate or comment on the proposal if you like, but keep in mind these do not affect the foundation’s decision. They are simply a way to give feedback to the NEast Philly editors. In that sense, if there’s something you feel is missing from the proposal, tell us that. While we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the grant, the overall idea is to improve NEast Philly based on what the readers want to see. You can see all the grant applicants here.

NEast Philly is officially open for business!

Though we’ve been up and running for almost a solid year now, the process of becoming a recognized and legitimate business was a slow one, complicated by delays from the city and state governments. But thanks to the folks at Freedom Credit Union, the NEast Philly business account is finally open!

Business owners interested in advertising can get that information here, and NEast Philly readers: keep your eyes peeled in the near future for opportunities to buy some very NEast-y products!

NEast Philly now fully visible in Internet Explorer 0

Aug18

Everyone should be able to read this just fine, now.

Some readers were having difficulty reading NEast Philly while using the Internet Explorer Web browser.

Thanks to a consultation, everything should be in order both in IE and Mozilla Firefox, among other browsers. If not or if you every have any complaints, criticisms or concerns about the content or how it looks, please never hesitate to contact us. We’re a growing startup, so we need your help.

Thanks for your patience. If anyone was concerned with how the site looked, please let them know we’re back and operating.

For those tech heads, you may be interested to know that our problem was that I foolishly failed to close a tag in our design code, and, while the Firefox browser was smart enough to correct the problem, IE rendered my code correctly — which was the mess some of you were seeing.
