Man shot in jaw in Northwood 2

A man was transported to Aria Health Frankford early Tuesday evening after being shot in the jaw. According to a police report, the 30-year-old man was shot in the jaw by a man a woman told police is his father on the 5300-block of Large Street in Northwood.

Frankford Friends expansion gets neighborhood civic association OK 1

A $1.6 million expansion project that would remake the capacity of a fixture of Frankford was given approval Thursday night by the neighborhood’s civic group.

The Frankford Friends School, at the corner of Penn and Orthodox streets, would see a modern, single-floor, multi-use, 32-foot additional building constructed east of its historic 1833-era school house if the city’s zoning commission approves a change to the property’s zoning distinction.

UPDATE (Sept. 7, 9:36 a.m.) — Police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Nasiyis Malik Ingram of the 4800-block of Tackawanna Street.

An 18-year-old died early Sunday morning following a shooting overnight in Frankford.

The shooting started on the 1900-block of Harrison Street where victim reportedly tried to run from the gunman, but was shot multiple times before collapsing on the 4800-block of Tackawanna Street around 1:30 a.m. continue reading »

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia City Council held a hearing to learn more information on the death of 63-year-old Joaquin Rivera, who died last November in the E.R. waiting room of Aria Health-Frankford. Rivera, having been told to wait, sat and died over an hour later. A few minutes after, camera caught three men robbing him. In turn, the hospital is defending its handling of the situation.

broken-windshieldTwo school buses collided yesterday afternoon in Frankford during the after-school hours.

A small school bus and a larger one collided at the intersection of Pratt and Valley streets around 3:30 p.m. The 45-year-old woman who was driving one of this buses was taken to Aria Health-Frankford for treatment of minor injuries.

handcuffsA third suspect has been arrested in connection with last week’s theft in Aria Health-Frankford’s waiting room.

Jannira Walker, 21, was arrested Saturday for theft, robbery and other charges. Her last known address was in North Philadelphia, but police said it’s likely Walker was homeless, much like her two accomplices. continue reading »

Suspects rob dead man in waiting room 0

Crime Scene (police line tape)1Joaquin Rivera entered Aria Health’s Frankford Hospital Saturday night complaining of pain in his left arm. An hour and 15 minutes later, he was dead, and three men had stolen his watch.

According to reports, Rivera, 63 and an active leader of Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican community, was told by the E.R. staff to wait for treatment, despite his heart attack-like symptoms. He sat down in the waiting room, and briefly spoke with three men who entered around 11 p.m. Rivera died minutes later, but his death went unnoticed by the staff during the 11 p.m. shift change. continue reading »
