Car accident leaves boy in critical condition 1

We received a notice a short time ago from ReadyNotifyPA about an accident on the 4400-block of Tolbut Street in Upper Holmesburg.

A 6-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to Aria Health Torresdale, where he’s in critical condition. The driver stayed on the scene.

newsFriday – A fight outside Lincoln High School Friday afternoon left two police officers with minor injuries. The officers were trying to stop an argument between a group of teenage girls outside the school around 3:15 p.m, when they requested backup due to the large crowd.

The officers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries, and more than five students were arrested. There’s no word yet on what led to the fight. continue reading »

Toddler's death ruled homicide 0

A 1 1/2-year-old found left alone in the shower died Saturday, and the Inquirer reports her death has been ruled a homicide.

Samari Campbell was discovered by police in the shower of her home around 6 p.m. Saturday. Her mother’s boyfriend called police when he found her there unresponsive after he left her alone.

Campbell died an hour later at Aria Health-Torresdale. An autopsy on the child found multiple blunt force trauma injuries. An arrest has not been reported.

Around 10:15 Thursday, police became involved in a pursuit when they heard gunshots near the 1500-block of Bridge Street in Frankford. They came upon a group of males, one of whom had a gun. Wissinoming shooting sends one to hospital 0

A man was wounded yesterday afternoon following a shooting in Wissinoming.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot in the chest around 5 p.m. on the 5700-block of Ditman Street. He was transported to Aria Health-Torresdale. His condition is unknown, and no arrests have been made.

I always forget about it every year – forget about it, of course, until I receive a call from my mom around noon or pull up to the street on which I grew up only to be met by road partitions and a cruel reminder that I have to drive a few blocks to find a place to park.
Both of those things happened this past weekend when I drove down to Northeast Philly for the weekend on Saturday and realized that the annual block party for the section of my childhood street was in progress. continue reading »
