A wheelchair-bound man was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon outside Moss Rehab in Bustleton.
The victim suffered a broken leg when an elderly driver accidentally hit the gas and drove onto the property on the 9800-block of Bustleton Avenue, pinning the victim against a building.
Action News reports Moss workers taking a break outside were able to quickly assist at the scene before both men were transported to the hospital. Police are still investigating the accident. The driver is in his 80s.

Northeast Detectives is asking for help to identify a suspect police believe is connected with two 2nd District Metro PSC robberies.
The description of the suspect in both late July robberies is similar: a black male roughly 45 to 55 or 50 to 60 years old, about 5’11″ and 230 pounds. He was seen wearing a tan baseball hat and burgundy polo shirt during the first robbery’ and a short-sleeved blue shirt, blue pants, blue Army-style hat and glasses during the second crime. continue reading »

The Far Northeast will get two additional red light cameras. That was one of the bigger announcements at last week’s Somerton Civic Association.
Councilman Brian O’Neill said two busy intersections — Grant Avenue and Academy Road and Bustleton Avenue and Byberry Road — will be among the many Northeast corners to have red light cameras.

Friday – A water main break early Friday evening rerouted traffic from the busy Bustleton Avenue/Red Lion Road intersection. A 12-inch main burst around 7:30 p.m. The Philadelphia Water Department said only three customers lost service. Repairs began Saturday. continue reading »

Residents are advised to avoid the area of the Pennypack Creek between Roosevelt Boulvard and Bustleton Avenue after a Fairmount Park ranger captured a rabid beaver there.
The beaver, suspected of three attacks between Wednesday and Thursday, will be taken to the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center in Chester County and tested for rabies. continue reading »

An unnamed male driver was rushed to Aria Health-Torresdale early Sunday morning after he drove his vehicle into a building in Somerton.

Police are looking for the man who crashed his truck into a pizza shop, robber the pizzeria, led police on a chase and crashed in Montgomery County.
About 9 a.m. Saturday, the suspect crashed his pickup truck into Aldo’s Pizzarama on the 10000-block of Bustleton Avenue, where he took the cash register and fled. continue reading »

A man was grazed by a bullet Sunday night when shots were fired at Bustleton and Longshore avenues. The man was struck in the neck around 11 p.m., and two bullets hit the car. He did not need medical attention. Authorities are still investigating the incident.

Two officers were injured, one seriously, during a robbery arrest Tuesday night outside the Bustleton Avenue Target. The suspect fled the Target at Bleigh and Bustleton avenues when employees suspected he was shoplifting. He injured two officers before getting arrested. continue reading »

Frank Peterson interacts with patrons of the Free Library System on a daily basis. Peterson, the head of the newspapers and magazines department at the Northeast Regional Branch, has been working at the second-largest branch of the Free Library near the intersection of Cottman and Bustleton avenues for more than 30 years.
“I’m an old-timer,” Peterson said with a sheepish laugh. “I’m from the Northeast. I grew up around here.”
Peterson, whose demeanor mirrors the library’s calm atmosphere he says community members have continually appreciated, has also seen the library system through its tumultuous battle for additional resources–and to remain functioning. continue reading »
