8th District meetings canceled Wednesday, Feb. 2 0

The 8th District has announced the cancelation of two meetings scheduled for tomorrow night. Capt. Deborah Kelly’s Town Hall meeting at 6 p.m. and the PDAC meeting at 7 p.m. are canceled due to weather.

The District has not yet decided if Thursday’s PSA 3 meeting will be canceled. We’ll bring you updates as they come in.

8th District honors its fallen officers for Arbor Day 0

Members of the 8th PDAC sponsored an Arbor Day event on Friday at the district.  The ceremony featured a tree dedication to remember and honor all deceased police officers who either lived or worked in the 8th Police District.

Remarks were made by our guest speakers: State Reps. Dennis O’Brien and Brendan Boyle, Fraternal Order of Police President John J. McNesby, 8th District Capt. Deborah Kelly PDAC Vice Chairman Harry Sonntag, Rev. Carl Graczyk of St Jerome parish and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz.  The Honor Guard was comprised of the Patriot Guard Riders (U.S. military veterans), a Philadelphia Police Honor Guard and a bugler, Cpl. John Halligan.

The 8th Police District Annual Awards Ceremony took place at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Cannstatter’s with the following recognitions:

George Biles Memorial Award for Officer of the Year 2009:  Police Officers Harry Taylor and Daniel Rubin

Civilian Employee of the Year:  Ms. Angela Wiggins-Streater

Morrell Park ShopRite gives back 0

The Morrell Park ShopRite donated a check Friday in the amount of $10,000 to the Police Survivors Fund. The fund raises money for the family members of the city’s fallen police officers. Capt. Deborah Kelly of the 8th District was on hand to accept the check from Richard McMenamin, owner and operator of the Morrell Park ShopRite. With her were Steven J. Weller, director of marketing for the Fraternal Order of Police, State Rep. Dennis O’Brien and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
