Here’s a summary of the week’s Northeast news we didn’t cover. See others here.
The 22-year-old daughter in the alleged mother-daughter prostitution operation that advertised on the popular Craigslist Web site and was busted last fall has received a three-year probation sentence, the Daily News reported Wednesday. The woman, Tami Smith, and her now 39-year-old mother were caught soliciting an undercover police officer in a home they rented in Wissinoming, as CBS3 reported in October. continue reading »

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast mag wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
This is a frequent mistake, but unforgivable, regardless. Saturday’s two-car crash that injured nine people happened at Penn Street and Cheltenham Avenue, an intersection that could arguably be Frankford or Northwood.
But it’s definitely not Oxford Circle, as CBS3 reported, because that neighborhood is west of Roosevelt Boulevard.

In a story yesterday about a memorial ceremony held for slain police officer Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, CBS3 labeled the event as being in Northeast Philadelphia.
Last we check, the intersection of Almond and Schilller streets is in Port Richmond, which is not NEast.

Put this in the never-trust-a-weather-report category.
6ABC says the weather tomorrow will be as temperate as 70, with the high at 74.
CBS3′s forecast, like Weather.com‘s, says 90 or more. Who’s right? I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Who is your favorite weather person? Anyone you trust? Who don’t you?

Police say a man was in his home on the 1600-block of Dyre Street in Frankford when a bullet came through his screen window at 5:30 this morning.
The 30-year-old man was struck twice in the head, and sustained severe brain damage.
CBS3 states the man remains in Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, though Frankford Hospital would make more sense. No arrests have been made.
