UPDATE (Nov. 12, 2010 at 11:26 a.m.) — Obina Onyiah has been charged with the murder of Glatz. The 27-year-old Frankford resident escaped from the crime scene in a car driven by another suspect, who is still on the loose.

UPDATE (Nov. 9, 2010 at 11:36 a.m.) — Authorities are questioning a second suspect whom they believe in connected with the robbery and homicide at Glatz Jewelers.

UPDATE (Oct. 26, 2010 at 10:22 a.m.) — Police say an arrest is imminent in connection with those responsible for helping Kevin Turner escape from prison. The suspects will face charges involving Turner’s escape and the murder of William Glatz.

UPDATE (Oct. 22, 2010 at 12:29 p.m.) — A photo of the missing suspect has been released.

William Glatz, owner of William Glatz Jewelers in Lawncrest is dead today following a shootout in his store yesterday morning.

Two men attempted to rob 67-year-old Glazt in his store on the 6400-block of Rising Sun Avenue around 11 a.m. Thursday. Glatz exchanged gunfire with the suspects and sustained a bullet wound to the chest. He died later at Einstein Medical Center. continue reading »

Robbery suspect shot at McNally's in Mayfair 2

PoliceBadgeA robbery suspect was shot last night in Mayfair at Rowland Avenue and Brighton Street.

According to reports, a man ordered a drink at McNally’s Tavern around 11 p.m., was turned away when he didn’t have ID. The male returned with two companions, all wearing hoodies to hide their faces.

With guns pointed at two off-duty officers in the bar, the men stole a small amount of money and one of the officer’s badges. The second officer fired at the men inside the bar, then proceeded to chase them. continue reading »

newsSaturday – A shooting in Frankford send a male to Einstein Medical Center early Saturday morning. West Frankford Town Watch reported the man was shot around 1:30 a.m. on the 5100-block of Frankford Avenue behind the Wachovia Bank.

In related news, a tip from West Frankford Town Watch says the crime camera at Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street does not work, and has not been working for the past three months. continue reading »

Authorities are trying to identify a man who was severely beaten Saturday.

The man was reportedly beaten in the parking lot of Tower Plaza [map] around 7:45 a.m. Saturday. He is a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years old and about 5’8″. He has a husky build, light complexion and black spiked hair, and was wearing jeans and cowboy boots when he was attacked. His name might be Javier. continue reading »

newsTwenty children were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon following a bus accident.  A sedan rear-ended the school bus the children were on on their way home from school at Castor Avenue and Benner Street. A Fels High School student was killed Tuesday afternoon, just weeks before her graduation and college career.

Madina Sem, 18, got off the bus at 2nd and Olney streets around 4 p.m. Tuesday. As she turned the corner nearing her house, Sem was struck by an out of control vehicle that had been hit by another. continue reading »

Reports say a 19-year-old man is in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center after being shot in the hand and chest just after 6:30 last night.

Crime Scene (police line tape)1A Burholme man was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center Monday night following what police are calling an “altercation.”

The 24-year-old man was transported to the hospital around 8 p.m. from a home on the 800-block of Princeton Street. He had on his what appeared to be cuts from a pistol whipping, but few other details have been release. Two other men fled the scene.
