The driver involved in a single-vehicle accident escaped without injury yesterday, though the crash resulted in an electrical fire.
When the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle around 8 a.m.on the 8500-block of Algon Avenue and crashed into a pole, wires fell into the street and caught fire. Police are investigating the crash, but the driver escaped uninjured.

Friday — Two the causes of two Thursday fires are under investigation.
Around 10:30 a.m., a woman was rescued from a fire on the 8900-block of Frankford Avenue. She reportedly suffered severe burns over 60 percent of her body. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes.
A ruptured gas line sparked a blaze that night on the 1400-block of Creston Street. PECO, PGW and fire officials were able to stablize the scene and put the fire out. continue reading »

More than 20 people are displaced after an early morning fire gutted a building in Frankford Monday.
West Frankford Town Watch reported heavy smoke was sited on the second and third floors of an apartment building on the 4400-block of Paul Street around 2 a.m. Firefighters rescued three people from the building. continue reading »

Authorities are investigating the vandalism of more than a dozen buses at the depot on the 3800-block of Woodhaven Road. The buses were discovered yesterday with smashed windows as crews were investigating a weekend crime in which five buses were burned. continue reading »

A 60-year-old man was critically injured yesterday after a fire broke out in his home on the 3100-block of Holly Road. The flames were under control in about 15 minutes, but the man sustained third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body. There’s no word yet on what caused the noontime blaze.

One person was injured yesterday afternoon in a Mayfair house fire. After extinguishing the blaze in the home on the 3100-block of Hellerman Street, fire officials determined the fire likely started in the kitchen, but have not yet discovered the exact cause. An elderly man was treated for smoke inhalation.

An early morning fire claimed the life of two residents of the Oxford House in Lawndale.
Crews responded to the blaze around 9 a.m., where Gerald Hooper, 75, and Lynn Scripnicencu, 56, were struggling to get out. Both needed wheelchairs to get around. Hooper was found unresponsive, Scripnicenu was pronounced dead at the hospital. continue reading »
