For Daniel Tobin, living in Frankford goes beyond going to school and playing with his friends.
The 12-year-old was recognized Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Downtown Center‘s Townie Awards ceremony. Tobin received the award for his work with the Frankford Main Street Corridor.

Friday – A 19-year-old is dead following a shooting in Lawncrest Friday night. The man was shot in the neck and groin just after 8 p.m. on the 5900-block of Rising Sun Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center. No arrest has been reported.
Saturday – Residents of Frankford participated in Philly’s Spring Cleanup Saturday afternoon, helping beautify their streets. Frankford Gazette has more details, and video on the third-annual event.

A group of eighth grade students at Frankford Friends School received an award from the New York Bridge Film Festival for their documentary called Every Little Drop Counts.
Aldo Magazzeni, who featured in the film for his work building fresh water systems in places like Afghanistan, even dropped by the school for a congratulatory visit.

District Attorney Seth Williams will assign his assistant district attorneys to specific geographic areas to increase accountability and familiarity, according to his presentation at Thursday night’s Frankford Civic Association meeting, as reported by the Frankford Gazette.
The meeting also featured a series of updates from City Councilwoman Maria Sanchez’s office, including her hesitance to support Mayor Nutter’s proposed “soda tax.”

The Frankford Special Services District held a public meeting last Monday, Feb. 1, which included board member elections, and neighborhood discussions about Welfare to Work, public trashcans ongoing plans for area businesses.

We couldn’t make it to Tuesday’s Northwood Civic Association meeting. But our friends at the Frankford Gazette did — and so did NBC10.
The meeting revolved mostly around 4871 Roosevelt Blvd. Also a focus of previous Northwood and Frankford meetings, the property was purchased by volunteers of America, and Northwood Civic President Barry Howell has made it his mission to see the property is used to benefit the community.

Steven Smink, 47, owner of Pike Lanes Family Fun Center in Deerfield Township, N.J., was arrested at his home on the 9100-block of Veree Road for burning down competing bowling alley Loyle Lanes Bowling Center. Smink, along with Felix Antonio Manzano Jr., 21, and a 17-year-old, both of the 8000-block of Frankford Avenue, was charged with arson for hire, aggravated arson and conspiracy to commit arson. If convicted, they face up 20 years in state prison, according to officials.
