PDCFor Daniel Tobin, living in Frankford goes beyond going to school and playing with his friends.

The 12-year-old was recognized Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Downtown Center’s Townie Awards ceremony. Tobin received the award for his work with the Frankford Main Street Corridor.

newsFriday –  A Frankford High School student tested positive last week for tuberculosis. A spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia said both the district and parents of all Frankford High students were notified. Students and staff who spent more than two class periods with the infected student will have to be tested for TB, as well. continue reading »

Overnight robbery at Frankford 7-Eleven 0

Gun-iconTwo gunmen robbed a Frankford 7-Eleven early this morning, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to reports, the two armed men walked into the 7-Eleven on the 5200-block of Harbison Avenue around 1 a.m. They announced the holdup, took the money, and ran. No one was injured.

Police and L&I officials are investigating a car crash that compromised a Frankford building.

A car crashed into a home on the 1700-block of Meadow Street last night, causing significant damage, and forcing residents to evacuate. There is no word yet on how the accident happened. L&I will need to determine if the house is in danger of collapsing.

Right NEast/Wrong NEast: There must be a special El stop for the Philly Weekly writers 3

We have no mercy for Philadelphia Weekly food critic Brian McManus, because this mistake is just downright stupid.

McManus recently reviewed Frankford’s Billy’s Chili Pot, and although his assessment of the place paints a pretty bleak pretty of Frankford, that’s not what we’re taking issue with.

To get to Billy’s Chili, McManus had to take the El. From Center City. That left him a solid 20 minutes to stare at the Market-Frankford Line map. The map with all the names of the stops.

And then, McManus got off the El at the Margaret-Orthodox stop. He must have heard the voice recording announce the name of the stop.

Breaking news from West Frankford Town Watch 0

West Frankford Town Watch has just sent the following information over:

Multiple shots fired on the 5200-block of Penn Street in Frankford. Neighbors reported hearing up to 10 shots, and police have so far recovered eight shell casings from what appears to be a 9mm handgun.

Several cars were hit, but it’s unclear if any injuries have been reported or if an arrest has been made.

Frankford’s Flag House Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, installed its 2010-2013 officers and honored two local recipients of NSDAR Community Service Awards at its 107th Anniversary Luncheon Saturday.

An invocation by Treasurer Mrs. Charles H. Link was followed by greetings and a patriotic ritual by Regent Mrs. Bruce C. Zielinski.  Assembled guests enjoying lunch included a number of national, state and local DAR, and CAR (Children of the American Revolution) representatives, several prospective members, area residents and those from various historical and religious institutions throughout the Northeast. continue reading »
