We get frequent requests from readers to check out, report on or clean up graffiti around the Northeast.

A lot of these tips come in anonymously or through bogus email accounts, so we wanted to take a minute to address everyone on why you won’t often see graffiti reports on here.   continue reading »

Taking stock of bandit signs in Fox Chase 19

There are a lot of bandit signs in Fox Chase, but there’s also Fox Chase Town Watch. A Fox Chase Town Watch member has taken it upon himself to help remove the neighborhood’s graffiti and bandit signs — the signs illegally posted on poles that advertise things like, “we buy houses.”

On Aug. 31, an accounting of signs collected since July 15 was taken to tally what their owners owe, since the City of Philadelphia charges $75 to $300 (based on how many offenses there have been) for the bandit signs.

The Fox Chase Homeowners Association and Town Watch groups held the first meeting of the season last night, and two main subjects were on everyone’s minds – the new train station and the growing graffiti problem.

Councilman Brian O’Neill addressed the attendees first, to acknowledge that the new train station will be completed two years ahead of schedule, and mentioned that he believes the station will be “a real good thing” for Fox Chase. continue reading »
