A father and son were injured Monday afternoon when they were struck by a vehicle on Cottman Avenue.

Thursday – Two teenagers were shot late Thursday night in a Castor Gardens incident at Unruh Avenue and Kindred Street. The shooting left 18-year-old Tyree Branch of the 6500-block of Horrocks Street dead from a wound to his back. The other teenager, 17, was treated at Jeanes Hospital for a wound in the arm. continue reading »

Child struck by car in Northwood 0

Crash-iconA 10-year-old boy in Northwood is in critical condition at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike.

The boy was riding around the intersection of Horrocks and Herbert streets around 7:45 p.m. when the driver of a black Dodge Charger struck him and fled the scene.

No further details have been released.

Fire-iconA woman in her 60s died early yesterday morning following a fire in Northwood home.

Firefighters arrived at the home on the 4600-block of Horrocks Street just before 4 a.m. Thursday, and medics rushed the woman to Temple University Hospital where she later died. continue reading »

Seth Williams says he doesn’t always wear his seat belt while driving.  Philadelphia’s District Attorney also says he was recently caught by a red-light ticket camera.

Lessons for enforcing driving in a town whose DA has broken a law or two can be implemented citywide. So Williams told 30 residents at Tuesday’s Northwood Civic Association meeting in the basement of St. James Church.

“It’s not the severity of punishment that changes behavior,” he said. “It’s the certainty of punishment.”

It was one of four hallmarks he gave for his developing administration, before taking questions from a community that has characterized itself in a quality-of-life war against blight and crime.

Woman arrested in auto attack 0

caraccidentPolice arrested a woman Saturday afternoon after what they say was an intentional attack with her vehicle.

Reports say the woman intentionally ran over a man with her car at the intersection of Pratt and Horrocks streets in Northwood. The victim, 27, was pinned against a wall before being taken to Temple Hospital in stable condition. Though the woman attempted to flee the scene, 15th District officers apprehended her.

Schoolbus accident in Frankford 0

A schoolbus collided with an SUV at Pratt and Horrocks streets in Frankford this morning.

Around 8 a.m., the bus driver swerved across lanes to avoid hitting a parked truck, when the bus crashed into the SUV. Two of the four students on the bus were injured, one of who was taken to the hospital. No word yet on the condition of the SUV passengers.
