As part of the ongoing project to improve the Interstate 95/Cottman Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia, the eastbound Princeton Avenue on-ramp to northbound Interstate 95 in Tacony will close for five days, beginning today for the installation of a drainage pipe 35 feet beneath the ramp.
The ramp will close Monday, March 19 at 9 a.m. and reopen Friday afternoon March 23.
During the ramp closure, eastbound Princeton Avenue motorists will be detoured north on State Road to Linden Avenue, and left at Linden Avenue to the ramp to I-95 North. Message boards and signs will be posted to direct motorists along the detour route. continue reading »
Interstate 95 is a much-used highway in Philadelphia. It also happens to separate parts of neighborhoods like Wissinoming, Tacony, Holmesburg, Upper Holmesburg and Torresdale from the Delaware River waterfront. It’s a commonality many of Philadelphia’s eastern-most neighborhoods share.
As plans to develop and revitalize the city’s waterfronts move forward, the conversation has shifted toward the highway and the intrusion it’s become.

State Sen. Mike Stack and Rep. Mike McGeehan yesterday said that the second phase of construction under the Interstate 95 Cottman-Princeton interchange project in Tacony has been temporarily delayed.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation withdrew its advertisement for construction bids in order to continue to help 12 local businesses vacate their locations and relocate. These businesses are in the direct path of the proposed new interchange. continue reading »

Pay extra attention on your drive today, because there’s a new southbound I-95 ramp in Tacony.
The switch will take place mid-day, weather depending.
Instead of getting on the southbound ramp at Princeton Avenue, you’ll now use the ramp on Longshore Avenue off State Road. It’s part of the plan to make Princeton Avenue a two-way residential street. continue reading »

State Sen. Mike Stack and Rep. Mike McGeehan announced Wednesday that the two westbound lanes of Cottman Avenue were opened as part of the ongoing project to improve the Cottman/Princeton interchange of Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.
“This is good news as the unofficial start of summer begins,” Stack said. “This latest phase of the project will help improve the flow of traffic, especially during rush hour and on the weekends when folks are out and about.” continue reading »
