With approximately 70 inches of snowfall since December, the damage around the region is stacking up. Trees and traffic signs are usually the first to go, but the weight of the snow is taking a serious toll on businesses, as well.
JAMZ, the roller skating rink at Brous and Princeton avenues in Mayfair, has a leaking roof. The controversial rink was closed for business yesterday as L & I investigated the severity of the damages.

Inching ever closer to street patrols, members of Mayfair Town Watch completed the first of a two-part training series at last night’s meeting.
Chad Enos of Town Watch Integrated Services led the half-hour session, which dealt with organizational structure and 9-1-1 codes. “A lot of town watch groups initially fail because they don’t set up a structure,” Enos informed the group. Fortunately for the Mayfair organization, the members have already established a board, set up patrol teams and are drawing in new members. Mayfair residents got wind of some big changes coming to their neighborhood at last night’s Mayfair Civic Association meeting.
The first order of business came from Acting President Joe DeFelice, who announced that former president Scott Cummings has stepped down from his position to attend to personal issues. From there, DeFelice said, the civic association will be dissolved, all assets liquidated and all grants closed. This will all likely happen by the end of the year, he said, and then the civic association will start fresh. continue reading »
