On Tuesday, the Philadelphia City Council held a hearing to learn more information on the death of 63-year-old Joaquin Rivera, who died last November in the E.R. waiting room of Aria Health-Frankford. Rivera, having been told to wait, sat and died over an hour later. A few minutes after, camera caught three men robbing him. In turn, the hospital is defending its handling of the situation.

A third suspect has been arrested in connection with last week’s theft in Aria Health-Frankford’s waiting room.
Jannira Walker, 21, was arrested Saturday for theft, robbery and other charges. Her last known address was in North Philadelphia, but police said it’s likely Walker was homeless, much like her two accomplices. continue reading »

Joaquin Rivera entered Aria Health’s Frankford Hospital Saturday night complaining of pain in his left arm. An hour and 15 minutes later, he was dead, and three men had stolen his watch.
According to reports, Rivera, 63 and an active leader of Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican community, was told by the E.R. staff to wait for treatment, despite his heart attack-like symptoms. He sat down in the waiting room, and briefly spoke with three men who entered around 11 p.m. Rivera died minutes later, but his death went unnoticed by the staff during the 11 p.m. shift change. continue reading »
