An eight-inch watermain broke around 5 a.m. on the 6300-block of Revere Street.

Residents of the 6300-block of Revere Street got an unpleasant wake-up call this morning: an eight-inch watermain break.

The break happened around 5 a.m. between Robbins  and Levick streets — two main traffic arteries. Water has been shut off to approximately 60 to 80 surrounding homes, but is expected to be back on by the end of today.

Off-duty officer's car ends up in river 1

Police in Tacony are looking for a car in the Delaware River.

An off-duty police officer told authorities he drove the car into the river near Levick and Milnor streets under the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. The officer reportedly said he ended up in the river after making a wrong turn, and then swam to shore.

A 12-year-old awoke last night to find a man standing over her in her bedroom. The girl, who shares a room with her younger sister on the 1100-block of Kerper Street, screamed, waking up their mother.

According to reports, the male suspect punched the girl repeatedly before fleeing. Police believe the man lifted a screen to gain entrance to the house. continue reading »

Picture 3UPDATED (March 2, 5:50 p.m.) — Police have released a sketch of the man (at right) whom they believe assaulted the girl.

Police are searching for the man responsible for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in her Castor Gardens home early Monday morning.

According to reports, the girl awoke around 2:30 a.m. yesterday to find a man indecently assaulting her in her home on the 1400-block of Levick Street. The girl’s screams startled her 74-year-old babysitter, Julie Etienne, who came to the rescue.

The babysitter bit the attacker’s fingers until he fled. Police believe the attacker gained entrance through an unlocked door. continue reading »

A 15th District police car was involved in a minor accident early yesterday morning.

The officer driving the car slammed into another vehicle around 1 a.m. Monday on the 6400-block of Frankford Avenue near Levick Street.

No serious injuries were reported.
