Police in the 15th District shot a man last night who allegedly aimed his car at the officers in Tacony. The suspect was wounded during a pursuit on the 6300-block of Edmund Street [Philly.com].
A bicyclist was injured early Monday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck at Academy Road and Linden Avenue. The driver did stop and so far no charges have been filed [CBS3].
An elderly man died late Monday after being struck by a car at Frankford Avenue and Academy Road. Police are still investigating the crash and the driver, who did stop [Action News].

As part of the ongoing project to improve the Interstate 95/Cottman Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia, the eastbound Princeton Avenue on-ramp to northbound Interstate 95 in Tacony will close for five days, beginning today for the installation of a drainage pipe 35 feet beneath the ramp.
The ramp will close Monday, March 19 at 9 a.m. and reopen Friday afternoon March 23.
During the ramp closure, eastbound Princeton Avenue motorists will be detoured north on State Road to Linden Avenue, and left at Linden Avenue to the ramp to I-95 North. Message boards and signs will be posted to direct motorists along the detour route. continue reading »

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced earlier this month that $318,000 in funding will help improve Pleasant Hill Park in East Torresdale.
“We’re very grateful for the DCNR Grant award for our Pleasant Hill Development Project and are eager to implement the funds into the riverfront public space,” said Michael DiBerardinis, Philadelphia’s deputy mayor of environmental and community resources. continue reading »

Friday – Lifeguards came to the rescue Friday night in Torresdale, where a young girl nearly drowned. Two lifeguards at the Torresdale Boys Club pool on Linden Avenue pulled the 4-year-old from the water when one noticed her struggling. The girl was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale in stable condition after one of the lifeguards performed CPR. continue reading »

Saturday — A Castor Gardens family escaped uninjured from a home invasion Saturday morning. Three men entered a home on the 1200-block of Fanshawe Street, where the suspects tied the family up and demanded money.
It’s unclear how much money the men got, if any, but they did leave with the family’s Honda Civic. There’s been no word of an arrest. continue reading »

Around 7 a.m., a main on the 8500-block of State Road in Holmesburg burst, and the pressure resulted in what looked like a geyser spouting from the road. continue reading »

A man died Friday night while crossing State Road near Linden Avenue just blocks from his home.
The 54-year-old victim was crossing west to east on the 9200-block of State Road when a vehicle traveling southbound struck him shortly after 11 p.m.
The victim’s name will not be released until his family has been notified.
