The deep blue two-story building located at 7507 Oxford Ave. in Fox Chase, houses a home-grown mechanical repair shop known as High Tech Automotive. Sean and Tim Kelly have worked in the shop for a little more than 18 years.
The Kelly brothers grew up in Fox Chase and their roots go back to Saint Cecelia’s parish just down Rockwell Avenue from the shop. The Kelly brothers are proud of their Fox Chase roots and the service they provide to the neighborhood in their two-bay garage. continue reading »

Mike Bobby, John Duffy and Steve Phillips keep watch on Fox Chase
They are the eyes and ears of the Fox Chase community. Since 1995 The Fox Chase Town Watch has patrolled the streets of Fox Chase, alerting police to incidents and making note of ongoing problems that need police attention. Steve Phillips, current president of the Watch, has been a member since 1995. Membership is open to residents 18 years and older.
Members receive training, but rule No. 1 is to remember as a member you are not a law enforcement officer. Phillips became involved after the death of Eddie Polec, “Witnessing the death of Ed Polec has been my motivation for the last 17 years. I said to myself, this will not happen again, and that is why I do this.” continue reading »

An anti-gun violence protest greeted commuters during the afternoon rush hour yesterday on the 7400 Block of Oxford Avenue in Fox Chase. Members of the anti-gun violence group, Heeding God’s Call, mounted the protest with 17 members in front of Mike and Kate’s Gun Shop at 7492 Oxford Ave.
The normally congested intersection of Oxford and Rockwell avenues honked in support of the protesters. The gun shop was closed during the rush hour. continue reading »

Why would anyone need a standard clock or a wrist watch when you can awake with the red numbers on your alarm clock or just check your cell phone for the time? Joe Dollak marks the end of his term with the Rockledge-Fox Chase Business Association this month.
On most weekday mornings you can find Joe Dollak walking the business district in Fox Chase. On some mornings he grabs a sandwich at the local deli or coffee at the corner coffee shop. He may run into a few of the Northeast Lions on the corner and then return to The Carpet Shop, a business he has owned and operated in Fox Chase since the ‘70s. continue reading »
