This is the first of a two-part look at revitalization efforts in Frankford.
For the residents of Frankford, neighborhood revitalization efforts are nothing new.
The once thriving historic community has fallen on hard times and has succumbed to blight in the past few decades, evidenced by the empty storefronts, the graffiti and trash that decorate the street, and the lack of pedestrians going out and buying wares from the local shops.
Business is not booming, that much is clear. But the bigger problem is no matter how many programs have come through the area, not much has changed for the people who still linger in the area.
“We’ve been going over this since the ‘80s,” said Gilbert Pons, owner of Gilbert’s Upholstery. “I hope there’s change.” continue reading »

A $1.6 million expansion project that would remake the capacity of a fixture of Frankford was given approval Thursday night by the neighborhood’s civic group.
The Frankford Friends School, at the corner of Penn and Orthodox streets, would see a modern, single-floor, multi-use, 32-foot additional building constructed east of its historic 1833-era school house if the city’s zoning commission approves a change to the property’s zoning distinction.

Do you live west of Roosevelt Boulevard and south of Rhawn Street?
Then you live in Oxford Circle, according to CBS3. As little knowledge as the mainstream media have about the Northeast, they seem to be in particular need of a geography lesson on the west side of Roosevelt Boulevard. Because as many have done, and as CBS3 proves with this story, they tend to just label everything as Oxford Circle. continue reading »

He is said to have a medium complexion, and a dark goatee, and was wearing a black hoodie with jeans at the time of the robberies. continue reading »

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast mag wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
This is a frequent mistake, but unforgivable, regardless. Saturday’s two-car crash that injured nine people happened at Penn Street and Cheltenham Avenue, an intersection that could arguably be Frankford or Northwood.
But it’s definitely not Oxford Circle, as CBS3 reported, because that neighborhood is west of Roosevelt Boulevard.

CBS3 has photos of the crash.
