Here’s a summary of the week’s Northeast news we didn’t cover. See others here.

The 25-year-old man who died in a Frankford shooting last month is believed to be the agressor. Police initially thought Dallas Custalow was an innocent bystander when he was shot in the stomach inside the Irish Kitchen bar at Pratt and Oakland streets. But it is now believed Custalow, of the 1300-block of Anchor Street, pulled his gun first during an argument at the bar, hitting a 29-year-old man in the leg.

Today is the final day to vote Shane Victorino to the All-Star team. The Phillies’ center fielder is just two percentage points away from Pablo Sandoval, the third baseman and catcher for the San Francisco Giants.

Word is, there’s a chance Victorino can secure a spot even if he doesn’t get the right number of votes, but let’s not take any chances. Voting closes at 4 p.m., so get to it!

UPDATED: The Parent Trap: My real interest is beyond a child’s obsession 1

Jun9

Like most parents, it would make me happy if my children liked what I like. I had dreams of going to the park and having a catch with my son, or getting my kids interested in literature or classic films. But those plans fall by the wayside when your children find interests of their own.

The man is gone, the voice remains 0

Remembering Harry Kalas

By Patrick P. McNally

He was the voice of our springs and summers. Sometimes, on those very special years, he became the voice of our autumns.

His was the voice that crackled in the thousands of radios on the beaches in South Jersey, as familiar as the Fudgy-Wudgy man or the boys who hawked the Daily News. For almost four decades, we watched the Phillies. But we listened to Harry.

Harry Kalas, fittingly, died while preparing to broadcast another baseball game. That day, he was in our Nation’s capital. But it could have been any of the cities that Kalas traveled to during his time announcing the Phillies, and before that, the Houston Astros. For as much as he will be remembered for the home games at Veteran’s Stadium and Citizen’s Bank Park, Harry Kalas spent half of his seasons as America’s guest.

But his descriptions of the games through the airwaves made it seem like he was still here, in our living rooms. Like many Phillies fans, I have my memories of Harry Kalas. Not surprisingly, most of those are remembered from the other side of a radio speaker.

The Philly Phanatic paid a visit to St. Cecilia’s grade school in Fox Chase yesterday.

Mrs. Grogen’s third-grade class was honored for being a top participant in the “Be a Phanatic About Reading” program, and her students won a championship parade for school’s 700-plus students.

The Phanatic brought the glittering World Series trophy with him and made sure to give principal Sr. Lisa a kiss before leaving.

The Phillies’ “Be a Phanatic About Reading Night” is May 29 at Citizens Bank Park, where the top 10 most improved and top 10 most outstanding student readers will be honored.

NEasters are die-hard Phils fans 0

Dec20

By Shannon McDonald

After the World Series chaos at Cottman and Frankford, we all kinda knew this, but NEasters are die-hard Phillies fans. Our latest poll results prove it.

We asked which team’s bandwagon you’re on, and the Phightin’ Phils came in first:

redfoamfinger

  • Eagles: 17%
  • Flyers: 11%
  • Sixers: 0%
  • Phils (because they won the Series): 17%
  • Phils (because I’m a lifelong fan): 41%
  • Phantoms: 0%
  • Soul: 0%
  • Kixx: 11%

You all agree the Sixers are on the same level as the minor league hockey and football teams. That’s gotta hurt.
