The Philly Flash girls 12 & under team brought home the championship title from the Midway Pony Qualifier Tournament.
The Philly Flash is a girls fastpitch softball organization located at the intersection of Thornton and Comly roads.
The girls 12 & under team traveled to Wilmington, Del. for the 2010 Midway Pony Qualifier Tournament this past weekend. After winning one game and losing two on Saturday and getting the 8th seed, The team went undefeated on Sunday’s single elimination games by wining four games against the 9th, 1st, 4th and 3rd seeds, and took home the championship. continue reading »

The Easter Bunny visited the 8th District Saturday, where more than 80 families shared lunch, posed for pictures and played games with Peter Cottontail on a beautiful spring day. The bunny presided over the Easter egg hunt, as well. The event was sponsored by the 8th PDAC.

As he had for the last 36 years, Joe Glackin finished dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 23 and headed out the door to work the evening shift at the local Acme.
The difference is, that night he walked out of Acme Markets as an employee for the last time. While many were lounging on their sofas or propped in bed reading, Joe had been stocking shelves, greeting late night shoppers, working a register, stopping a thief and on occasion, calling 911 for a customer in medical distress. continue reading »

A reader sent in photos from Sunday morning’s fire at Austin Manor Apartments.
As NEast Philly reported yesterday, the five-alarm blaze took two hours for firefighters to control, and displaces several residents to a Red Cross temporary shelter at Northeast High School.
