A family with a lost dog and a woman in Somerton are both shocked after a dead dog was discovered yesterday on a porch in Somerton.
Chico, a 3-year-old Husky , went missing Saturday from his home on Haldeman Avenue in. He was discovered Monday by Sherri Verdon, a Somerton resident who found the dog’s severed remains on her porch. continue reading »

Police this morning found two alligators at a business in Holmesburg.
As part of an ongoing investigation into the industrial complex on the 8100-block of State Road, police raided a business, where they found two alligators in 300-gallon tanks. The gators, each about three to four feet long, wouldn’t have grown much bigger, experts say, but are illegal to keep as pets in Philadelphia.
The owner of the garage where the gators were kept will be fined, and the SPCA removed the animals.

SPCA workers spent three hours yesterday removing several dozen animals from a Mayfair home.
Officers found 6o cats and one dog living in unfit conditions in a home on the 4500-block of Teesdale Street. None of the animals had been receiving proper care, the dog was found with a skin condition and the litter boxes were full, a CBS3 report said. continue reading »

The SPCA was on the 1100-block of Hellerman Street yesterday afternoon, where employees cleared 68 animals out of a home.
Investigators obtained a search warrant after neighbors complained of seeing several rabbits on the property.
Twenty-two rabbits, 5 dogs, 7 guinea pigs, 8 doves, 22 cats, 1 pigeon. 1 duck, 1 turtle and 1 hamster were seized from the property, which has been deemed by L&I to be unfit for human habitation.

A Frankford man was arrested Friday after his children told their school counselor their father had set their puppy on fire.
