The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office has announced charges against Philadelphia Police Officer April Shaynick for allegedly filing a false accident report and insurance claim in August.

Shaynick was involved in a crash at Van Kirk Street and Summerdale Avenue, according to the DA’s office, but fled the scene. continue reading »

Friday - Police continue their search for the masked suspects who killed a Tacony storeowner during an armed robbery Friday. Xiang Huang, 27, was shot inside Jin House, the Chinese store and takeout restaurant he owned with wife Jin Huang at Longshore Avenue and Tulip Street. Xiang was killed in front of his wife and baby daughter, and also leaves behind two other young daughters.

The University of Pennsylvania’s medivac chopper made an unexpected landing this morning near Houseman Rec Center.

The helicopter, PennSTAR, was traveling over the area around 10:30 a.m. when an emergency light came on, prompting the pilot to make a spontaneous landing at Godfrey and Summerdale avenues.

No injuries were reported, and the plane will be inspected.

Pedestrian fatally struck at Bridge and Summerdale 0

caraccidentPolice are investigating a fatal accident that left a pedestrian dead last night.

According to a report from Action News, a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Bridge Street and Summerdale Avenue around 7 p.m. when he walked into an oncoming vehicle’s path. The driver remained at the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead when authorities arrived.

The incident appears to have been accidental.

Two police officers were treated for non-life threatening injuries following a car accident yesterday.

The 2nd District officers – one male and one female -were responding to an assist call when their car hit a 2006 Chevy Impala at the intersection of Cottman and Summerdale avenues around 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the Impala was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale, along with the officers, but no serious injuries were reported.
