Two Philadelphia Police officers have been charged with stealing water, energy and gas utilities at two city properties.

Holme Circle residents float idea for beautification of Circle 7

With repairs to the Holme Avenue Bridge complete, the Holme Circle Civic Association has turned its attention to the rest of the avenue, specifically, the Circle.

Serving three major roads and connecting the pockets of Winchester Park and Ashton, the Circle has seen better days. By PennDOT’s estimate, 40,000 vehicles pass through it everyday, prompting the HCCA to want a better impression form the neighborhood.

Talks of a beautification project began late last year when the bridge reopened, but HCCA members Joe Razler, Elsie Stevens and Mike Gould are now weighing their options for first steps.

Authorities kill rabid beaver near Pennypack Creek 0

Residents are advised to avoid the area of the Pennypack Creek between Roosevelt Boulvard and Bustleton Avenue after a Fairmount Park ranger captured a rabid beaver there.

The beaver, suspected of three attacks between Wednesday and Thursday, will be taken to the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center in Chester County and tested for rabies. continue reading »

One of two men who went rafting in Pennypack Creek yesterday is missing.

According to a report by the Daily News, the men’s raft overturned just before 7 p.m. in the water off of Winchester Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. A witness riding his bike in the area saw the men go under water and called police, but only one of the rafters made it out of the water. continue reading »
