Legislation proposes red-light cameras for Woodhaven and Knights roads and Bybyerry and Woodhaven roads.
AAA-Mid Atlantic today announced its support for legislation that would bring two additional red-light cameras to the Far Northeast.
Two city bills sponsored by 10th District Councilman Brian O’Neill would add cameras to Worthington Road and Byberry Road, and Woodhaven Road and Knights Road.

Two men – one from Olney, one from Port Richmond — face charges for the Friday night incident that resulted in an 8th District officer getting struck and dragged by a car.
Mark Kelly, 38, of the 5900-block of B Street and William Gray, 38, of the 3200-block of Mercer Street were arrested Friday on the 4100-block of Carteret Street, and have been charged with robbery, theft, aggravated assault, simple assault, kidnapping, impersonating a police officer, burglary and criminal conspiracy. continue reading »

Friday – Authorities are investigating the shooting of a man by police early Friday morning in an incident that began outside Aria Health-Frankford. Reports say officers witnessed a car drop off two gunshot victims at the hospital, and the officers decided to follow the car. Police are trying to determine what caused a single-car accident early Saturday morning on Woodhaven Road.
Around 1 a.m., the driver reportedly lost control of his minivan while heading east on Woodhaven Road and hit a utility pole near Knights Road before rolling over. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Jefferson University hospital for treatment. He is in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating the vandalism of more than a dozen buses at the depot on the 3800-block of Woodhaven Road. The buses were discovered yesterday with smashed windows as crews were investigating a weekend crime in which five buses were burned. continue reading »

Police are searching for armed men responsible for a home invasion earlier this afternoon. The suspects forced their way into an apartment on the 3200-block of Woodhaven Road around 1 p.m. and stole a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported.

I always forget about it every year – forget about it, of course, until I receive a call from my mom around noon or pull up to the street on which I grew up only to be met by road partitions and a cruel reminder that I have to drive a few blocks to find a place to park.
Both of those things happened this past weekend when I drove down to Northeast Philly for the weekend on Saturday and realized that the annual block party for the section of my childhood street was in progress. continue reading »

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire Monday night at the St. Ives complex off Woodhaven Road.
The fire broke out shortly after 11 p.m. in the building along the 200-block of Thornwood Place. Within minutes, the second alarm went off.
Despite the multiple alarms and heavy smoke, the blaze was under control just after 11:30, and the fire was contained to one apartment on the second floor. There were no reported injuries, but the cause is still being investigated.
